How can I find something important that I lost?

This might sound a little nerdy, but I lost my folder and I really need it; it has projects and irreplaceable papers... I really have no idea where it could be; when I left school it was in my backpack, and I did not take it out at all the rest of the day. Then the next morning, it wasn't in my backpack anymore...
